Fun Product Fridays

Hello everyone! Although this feature post is starting on a Wednesday, it will be updated every week on a Friday. As we know this blog is all about self-care and one of the most fun things about self-care is occasionally splurging on self-care products. It is important to know about self-care products because it is expensive does not mean it is good. With these Fun Product Fridays posts I will be giving an expensive product along with its "dupe". This means we will discuss a product that equally or somewhat does the same thing as an expensive product but for less the price. These posts will hopefully encourage and help you when you want to splurge or do some therapy shopping but do not want to spend too much money.

As a college student obsessed with self-care and skin care and easily persuaded by social media influencers to buy expensive "aesthetic" products, sometimes those products are just not within my price limit. It is a frequent occurrence that I will look up the ingredients in an expensive product and compare it to a cheaper more reasonable item. One product that I have personally bought that was a "dupe" would be the "dupe" for the Laura Mercier setting powder. The sale price for Laura Mercier is $43.00 while the Airspun setting powder retails for only $6.99. I personally have tried both products and can confidently say they visually do the same exact thing for more than half of the price. For links to both products see down below!

The featured product for this week is a skin care product that is also a makeup product, a two-in-one deal! This product is a primer which means you would put this on before your makeup process, although, some people like to just wear primer on days they want their skin to look dewy or glowy. The splurge product for this week would be the Milk Hydro Grip Primer. This product retails for $20.00 on the Seophora website and is marketed as long-wearing and hydrating. This product is silicone-free with a radiant natural matte finish. When wearing it alone it will make your skin look dewy yet radiant for up to 12 hours, if you decide to layer makeup on top it will prevent your makeup from getting cakey and melting off of your face. For the link to the Milk Makeup Primer look below!

While $20.00 may seem a reasonable price for a skin-care product, you are only receiving 10mL of this product. An alternative for this product would be the Elf Power Grip Primer. This product retails for $10.00 which is half of what you are paying for the Milk Makeup primer and instead of receiving 10mL of product from Milk, you will be getting 24mL out of the Elf primer. This means you are paying half the price for 50% more product! Just like the Milk Primer, this product is marketed to grip makeup all day to prevent caking and melting, keep your skin dewy, and also claims to last all day. Both products have the same ingredients and results. For the link to this week's dupe look below!

An amazing website to go to when trying to find products that I may not discuss in the Fun Product Friday Posts would be SKINSKOOL this is a website that does exactly what I do every Friday, but gives you the ability to search up your own product you want to splurge on that I have missed! This website starts off by telling you exactly what the product you looked up does and the ingredients included, and with a quick scroll, you can be directed straight to other products and links to buy the products. If you are interested in finding more products you are interested in definitely head to this website!

If you are interested in this week's Feature Blog Post, stay tuned weekly for more fun products you can try out yourself for less of the price. Leave a comment down below with products you would like me to compare on upcoming Fun Product Friday posts and share with friends who may be using the Mini Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer who could be saving money and also getting more products.

  1. These dupes are so fun! There are a few tiktokers I follow that do this but focus on perfume dupes. Its super cool to see one for makeup which is what I primarily look for a deal when buying. I have actually used that Milk Primer and while I do love it, I run through it so quickly. I may have to order that Elf dupe for some longer lasting supply. I am looking forward to more posts with some dupes, it might help me expand my makeup collection.

  2. I love this idea! I always look for generic brands of the same expensive products. Sometimes the "dupe" actually is a dupe...but more often than not I find it's almost the exact same product. I would love to see your recommendations for more makeup products. I'm always on the lookout for a budget-friendly lipstick or eyeliner!

  3. What a fun way to spend a Friday night! I love the dupes you've helped point out to help me save money since many products out there are created on a cheap scale and provide the same effects as designer, more expensive makeups! You've helped me discover some fun new products already and I can't wait to try out the Milk Primer, also! Thank you for helping me realize Friday Nights alone can actually be super therapeutic and fun when provided with exciting new and cost effective products. Looking forward to your next post!!!
